Abe and friends clinic with vinnie

Anyone go to it? Caught this on musicianforums. Sound quality is unfortunately DIABOLICALLY SHOCKING, can't make out what the hell vinnie is playing, but I'm posting it for posterity because..........it's vinnie.

I was there with two friends.

Raves:

1. Vinnie was an absolute monster, as you can imagine. His subdivision of time and ability to break out into what sounds like totally unrelated beats only to come back in seamlessly is at once confounding, intriguing and inspiring, to say the least. The band, especially Paul Jackson, Jr., would go nuts when he pulled that stuff.

2. Vinnie's rim shots are the sweetest I've ever heard.

3. Abe Laboriel, who must be over 60 was as big a monster as Vinnie. Wow!!! JMHO.

4. Despite what others have said here about Vinnie's feel for swing in his recorded music, live, he can swing his ass off.


Rants:

1. Every member of the band was a self described "believer" and each spent as much time talking about being "Christian" and about Jesus as they did playing music. The friends I was with, both Catholic, were appauled by it. They almost didn't come back for the concert. After an introductory song by the band and each member giving a speech about how they play for Jesus, yada yada yada, the band broke off into different rooms for clinics. In the drum clinic Vinnie asked how many attendants were drummers, and then asked how many were "Christian" drummers. Yes it was held in a church sanctuary (that looked more like a huge concert hall), but, give me a break. The add said "clinic and concert," it didn't say "crusade."

2. Vinnie played a monster extended solo in his clinic, but it wasn't particularly educational.

3. Vinnie's toms were miked and or mixed very poorly (I'm no expert on this subject). The result was his toms sounded very muddy. It was almost impossible to distinguish one tom from the other, or even one stroke from another with the full band.

Why musicians are so compelled to feel like Christians or believe in a higher power are beyond me. Because they have talent? They really need to take a step back and look at the planet they are on. WTF. What about the 1 week year old child that dies of some birth defect. The 8 month year old child that dies of some disease. The 6 year old kid with cancer. The 19 year old with a heart defect that dies suddenly. So forth and so forth. Do you think a creator of any sort would do such work? Come one people. People really need to look how they got here and where they are going. Just play music and leave your personal BS at home or in your own head. Remember people, your life span is just a one way trip to no where. Come on, you live an average of what ever earth year and then infinite existence. When you die you never read this message anyhow. Play drums and just have a great time with the time you have in the now.

We have numerous texts that describe in detail how this can be possible and the reasons why He does this. He is of course invisible and can pass through normal matter with ease.

And as far as the trip going nowhere, I wouldn't know, I've never met someone who came back to tell me that or otherwise for that matter.

If somebody talking about GOD or an after-life, or whatever, offends somebody so much that they can't even function enough to go back and see Vinnie Colaiuta play in concert - then they should really consider checking themselves into a mental institution!!! They're nuts!!!
